Ban on indoor smoking

This shisha bar is on my street, along with about 6 more or so. I have yet to hang out in a shisha bar in Paris, but tried it back in Madison at The Casbah restaurant/bar. They, too, stopped serving shisha when Madison banned indoor smoking. I don't think it's hypocritical to allow an amendment for exceptions for these bars. But, man, am I excited for the ban next year!!

I love it - spoken like a true American in Paris! When I speak to the majority of my Parisian friends, they are literally DREADING the ban...and smoking as much as possible in the bars while they still can!
Great blog!

I quit smoking a few years ago- i look forward ot the ban as well- but, does it seem to you that the smoking isn't as annoying here as it is in the States? I wonder if I assume smoking to be a cultural item in Paris- therefore acceptable and as a disgusting habit in america.- therefore unacceptable.

Hey, misplaced - thanks for finding your way here! (Flattered)

Actually, a non-smoking, US, long-time expat in Paris commented to me that they just won't be able to enjoy Paris the same without the smokers. It's a defining trait for the city.

I guess it's less annoying in the US to me because there's so much less of it, and those who still smoke - well, I pity the fool because they're addicted.

Here, I find it highly annoying because puffers are lighting up literally stepping out of the metro underground, to putting out just before entering the boulong, to chain smoking while sitting in a 10x10' basement of a coffee shop - with no windows, to just as they duck down into the metro (Which all feels so Minneapolis circa 1996. IE, sooo last year.)

Anyway, it's overly prevalent which makes me a tsk-tsk-er and a cranky granny when the smoke gets in my eyes.

It might make the Parisian look more moody and philosophical, and they might not know any better like the USA does, but does it have to be everywhere all the time?

Hi run around paris! Thanks for finding your way here, and for the nice comment!

Yummy cookies btw. My mom's the cookie baker in our family so I'll see if she can toss any Frenchy ones your way. Good luck, ambitious!

You know, the lady in Etam today told me I don't have an American accent when I speak my broken French. So, maybe my content's American, but my sounds aren't. ;)

When I speak to my French people, a lot of them think there will be a huge slew of amendments to the law exempting all kinds of bars or clubs or other establishments. So, I really wonder what the end result will be. Will there be those small bistros who just let it slide? There certainly aren't enough police to patrol it - though there are enough cranky people (not me - I'm more of sour-face-maker) who would tattle-tale.

It will certainly be interesting to see the end result!
